Today starts the second week of Spring "Break" for the Pope household. Jahlel and Aminah's Break was last week. This week Elyaqiym's(Qiym) break begins. Jahlel went to spring break camp and Aminah had daycare at her school. Qiym and I will be hanging tough with the baby all week. Honestly, Qiym presents the greatest challenge. He has Aspergers Syndrome. Which means...if I do not plan/schedule each hour of each day I will have a problem on my hand. The only thing on the agenda today will be taking the baby for his check-up. Thank God for Nintendo DS because that will keep him busy @ the doctor's office:) The rest of the day...I must plan..arts and crafts, homework, play time, etc. Good Times!
Another plus of sharing info, I would not have known your son had Aspergers. My son was diagnosed with ADHD a few weeks ago. I believed he had PDD or Aspergers for the longest time. I'm still concerned by some of his social interaction but the ADHD is being managed with meds and so far is going well. We will just have to keep watch and see if there are further diagnoses. They are challenging, but somehow the conditions add to their charm. I don't know if I'd take him any other way.
ReplyDeleteAren't they unique! I am always inspired when I find out about success stories of people with Aspy or ADHD. For instance, many engineers have aspy.. Also, I once met a middle school principal who had aspy and was quite successful. The key is, as their parent, we must channel their uniqueness and not allow the world make them feel bad because they see things from a different (and sometimes more intelligent) perspective.
